When you hear/see/encounter the word “POLITICS,” what comes to your mind? (Thanks in advance!) I think of our founding fathers. For example: George Washington kept this country going when his army had almost no supplies (farmers often sold to the British), Alexander Hamilton who was a brilliant treasurer (created the Bank of the US and thus gaining trust from other nations), Thomas...

World Bank waiving Haiti’s debt payments →
caraobrien: Currently, Haiti’s debt to the World Bank, which is interest-free, is about $38 million—about 4% of Haiti’s total external debt. Due to the crisis caused by the earthquake, we are waiving any payments on this debt for the next five years and at the same time we are working to find a way forward to cancel the remaining debt.

So I watched the President program on History Channel. It talked about President Carter, and I feel as if his term wasn’t complete. He was a different type of president from the start, rural and wanting to change the nation from the ground up. Somewhat of an Obama back then, except, of course for other obvious differences such as skin color, scandals, etc. He could have had one more term,...

Children Speak for Same-Sex Marriage:
littlemiss: LAST month, advocates and opponents of same-sex marriage packed the New Jersey State House in Trenton, supporters in blue, opponents in red. Near the end of the day, Kasey Nicholson-McFadden took the microphone. “It doesn’t bother me to tell kids my parents are gay,” he said in a clear voice. “It does bother me to say they aren’t married. It makes me feel that our family is less than...

Hillary Clinton's First Year Report Card: The...
The Good But the most interesting takeaway from Clinton’s first year as secretary may be in two areas that have reliably been popping up on the State Department’s agenda: global hunger and women’s rights.> The Bad In 1995, Clinton delivered a fairly stirring indictment of China’s record on human rights to the U.N.’s World Conference on Women in Beijing. For...

Why California Should Vote Yes on Pot
“Marijuana is much safer than alcohol. The supposed social harms of marijuana are caused by prohibition. Marijuana prohibition creates the underground market with exorbitant illicit profits that then spawns organized crime, violence, international instability, casual murder on our borders and in our cities. Creating legal markets for marijuana will end all that. Taxing and regulating will...

ihatethismess: (via brosephstalin) Blatant lying… Several domestic attacks took place under Bush, including 9-11 attacks 2001 anthrax attacks. A March 2004 State Department report on “Significant Terrorist Incidents, 1961-2003” quotes then-Attorney General John Ashcroft saying of the letters containing anthrax mailed to various targets: “When people send anthrax through the mail to hurt...

Bristol Palin sets up PR firm called BSMP LLC
According to NBC’s Rachel Maddow, Bristol Palin has founded her own “lobbying, public relations, and political consulting services” company. The political lobbying firm is called BSMP, for Bristol Sharon Marie Palin. The 19-year-old unwed mother is currently serving as a PR ambassador for Candie’s Foundation, a group that promotes sexual abstinence. This is hypocritical, since Bristol Palin...

New Jersey Senate Rejects Gay Marriage Bill
On a 20-14 vote, the New Jersey Senate rejected a same-sex marriage bill on Thursday. The announcement was made after hours of emotional public debate and protest rallies. Residents of the state are divided over the issue as many feel that because they legalized civil unions in 2006, same-sex marriage is not necessary. Although civil partners are consistently denied pension benefits and hospitals...

I have no respect or tolerance for Sharia The so-called “Qatif Girl”, the truly heroic woman who now faces 200 lashes after being gang-raped had more than just the authorities of this savage kingdom to worry about — it has recently emerged that her own brother tried to kill her when he realised she had been repeatedly violated. …in the twisted world of male Islamic...

U.S. Revises Khost, Afghanistan Death Toll To...
By Frank James It now appears that the official number is seven for the American civilians killed in the suicide bomber attack on an Central Intelligence Agency base in Khost province, Afghanistan. They were all CIA employees. The initial report from the State Department was that there were eight killed. But that number was revised down and now both the State Department and CIA are reporting...

Access to Safe Abortion is a Human Right →
rabbleprochoice: Safe abortion—the termination of a pregnancy by trained health care providers using correct, sanitary technique and proper equipment—is a simple, lifesaving health service. Nonetheless, of the 42 million induced abortions each year, an estimated 20 million are unsafe and 97% of those occur in developing countries.  Every year, nearly 70,000 women die unnecessarily from the...

Gay Rights then Gay Marriage
Both are entirely important, but the most important should always be your rights. When you have your rights, then everything else just comes next, like a domino effect.
